A sore throat is a common ailment that most of us experience from time to time, often dismissed as a minor inconvenience. However, when that scratchy, uncomfortable feeling transforms into a more persistent and severe pain, it could be a sign of a more specific culprit – strep throat.
Strep throat, short for Streptococcal Pharyngitis, is an infection caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes, also known as group A streptococcus. This bacterium is highly contagious and can spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or even talks.
1. Sudden and Severe Throat Pain
Strep throat often presents with a rapid onset of severe throat pain, making swallowing painful and challenging.
2. Red Tonsils with White Patches:
The back of the throat may appear red and swollen, with the tonsils exhibiting white or yellowish patches or streaks.
3. Swollen Lymph Nodes:
The lymph nodes (glands) in the neck may become tender and swollen as the body’s immune system responds to the infection.
4. Fever:
