Popular Treatment Options for Actinic Keratoses

Procedures for the treatment of Actinic Keratosis

Treatment can usually be performed in one or two office visits. Dermatologists use the following methods to treat AKs:

1) Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery

The most prevalent treatment method for actinic keratosis is cryosurgery using liquid nitrogen. It’s also possible to use compressed nitrous oxide or carbon dioxide. Liquid nitrogen is sprayed directly onto the lesions or administered with a cotton swab.

Your dermatologist will freeze the AK lesion during cryosurgery. After a few days, the objective is for the AK to come off. Before falling off, some AKs require more than one cryosurgery treatment. You may notice crusting or a blister on your treated skin after cryosurgery.
