Is there anything else to know?
If you’re having your ALT levels measured, you should know that certain non-medical conditions can increase their levels. When you get a medicine shot or after a very strenuous exercise, ALT levels usually increase because there’s muscle damage, and the damaged muscle tissue releases ALT enzymes.
Some drugs may also increase ALT levels. The same goes for natural health products that may cause minor and transient liver damage. Thus, if you’re taking meds or practicing sports, it is essential to ask your doctor whether they will change your blood values of ALT.
