What Does It Mean to Have High or Low Albumin Levels?

What other tests could help doctors diagnose liver conditions?

When low albumin levels suggest liver disease, one of these tests or a combination may be recommended:

• Bilirubin, prothrombin time levels, and other liver function tests
• Serologic testing to rule out different types of hepatitis virus
• An ultrasound scan to evaluate the structure of the liver
• A liver biopsy if an abnormal mass is found in liver imaging tests
