Brucellosis; Transmission, Symptoms, and Treatment

The trend of the disease

The contraction of the disease is only rare in wild animals. Although wild animals can be a host of Brucella, too, because they are never near humans, the transmission from wild animals to humans is negligible. The major source is only domestic animals because farmers and animal rearers contact them very frequently.

Although the occurrence of Brucellosis might seem to be rare, it is not as rare as expected. All over the world, more than 500,000 cases of Brucellosis are reported annually, and almost 2.4 billion people are at risk of developing it. The statistics in Palestine from 2000 show that 17.9 people from every 100,000 people were infected with Brucellosis. However, another survey conducted recently in 2020 showed that the number of cases has finally decreased by effective awareness and mitigation strategies. As a result, the number is only 15.9 cases of Brucellosis in every 100,000 people.
