Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Shortness of breath

This symptom should be evaluated carefully in immunocompromised hosts because it suggests cytomegalovirus pneumonia. It is usually interstitial pneumonia and is associated with hypoxemia, which is why patients may experience difficulty breathing and increase their breathing frequency.

Even in immunocompromised patients, pneumonia due to cytomegalovirus has a good prognosis and responds to therapy.
