elevated liver enzymes

2. Hepatotoxic drugs

Like alcohol, certain medications can place stress on the liver by generating reactive byproducts during metabolism, which may damage liver cells if exposure is excessive. Before approval, medications undergo safety testing to ensure this risk is minimal when used as directed. However, some drugs — particularly those used to treat serious conditions such as cancer — are known to carry a higher risk of liver toxicity.
