Avoiding alcohol
There is no doubt that alcohol can cause fatty liver disease. The main debate is whether there is a “safe” level of alcohol which humans can consume without risking fatty liver disease. Although no studies demonstrated that there is a safe level for alcohol, most patients who developed the fatty liver disease had consumed more than 40 units of alcohol for years. It is important to understand that developing fatty liver disease takes years, and more years are needed for fatty years to develop into cirrhosis and liver disease. If someone consumes that amount of alcohol for those years, they are more likely to develop other diseases including stomach ulcers, vitamin deficiencies and some cancers.
