Stop Hiccups

Breathing & Posture Exercises

breathing hiccups

The following are breathing and posture exercises that can help to get rid of hiccups:

  • Pull your knees up to your chest and lean forward
  • Valsalva maneuver: This entails forceful breathing out while your nose is being pinched and your mouth is being closed
  • Breath holding: Another breathing technique to get rid of hiccups is to inhale a gulp of air for an average of 20 seconds and gradually breathe slowly
  • Breathing into space: Using a paper bag, slowly breathe in and out inside the paper bag. Doing this at intervals will help get rid of the hiccups. However, avoid the use of nylon bags to avoid suffocation.
