Jaundice
This is the classic symptom of hepatitis A and other liver-related conditions. Jaundice is the yellowish coloration of the skin and mucosal membranes. The cause is bilirubin accumulated in the blood, running through our veins, attaching to the epithelial tissue, and changing its color. It is very important to distinguish jaundice with carotenemia, a condition where people eat a high dietary source of carotenes. This nutrient changes the skin coloration (but not the white portion of the eye) to a yellowish color.
