Dupuytren’s disease
It is also known as Dupuytren’s contracture, and it is a severe and progressive problem in the hands. The tissue that covers muscles and tendons in the hand starts to grow excessive tissue. There’s a dysregulation of the extracellular matrix, and the excessive buildup of collagen fibers and other extracellular proteins causes a progressive contracture of the hand and the fingers that ultimately becomes a significant problem often mistaken with arthritis of the hands.
This is also found in patients with other types of hepatitis and other forms of liver disease. However, Dupuytren’s disease may appear in patients regardless of their liver function. There’s a tendency of more serious liver problems in patients with this syndrome, but not a clear definition as to why.
