The future of hepatitis C in public health
There are still more strategies to be tested, and future studies may include virus-like particle-based vaccines, which work similarly to vector vaccines. It is also possible that further studies develop a vaccine adjuvant to strengthen the effectiveness of current variants.
We have running different hepatitis C vaccine trials with promising results. Even more, approaches may be explored in the future to obtain an accurate and fully-functioning vaccine. There is current expectancy on the release of protease inhibitors in the near future, which will influence the therapeutic process in hepatitis C but only for genotype 1. Thus, there’s still a need for hepatitis C vaccines to reduce the impact of the disease and its consequences.
