Symptoms of hepatorenal syndrome

There are no specific symptoms for hepatorenal syndrome, and the main predominating features are those of the concurrent liver disease including bloody vomiting, ascites, leg swelling, loss of muscle mass and hepatic encephalopathy (a wide range of neurological dysfunction occurring in patients with liver affection).
The first noticeable symptom, however, of hepatorenal syndrome is the decreased urinary output. Patients notice that their urine has decreased in amount and then they produce no urine once the condition is advanced enough. They also complain of generalized weakness, fatiguability, and a bad taste in the mouth – a symptom of increasing levels of urea in the blood-.
