Hepatotoxicity; How Can Drugs Damage Your Liver?

Liver transplantation

Liver transplantation remains the ultimate treatment for drug-induced hepatotoxicity if other measure fail. Your doctor will suggest liver transplantation only when there is no other option. However, they have to identify that as early as possible to ensure enough time until a donor is found and you are prepared for the surgery.

Liver transplantation has greatly improved across the years, and fewer complications are now expected both during the procedures and the weeks following it. Your donor can either be a deceased or a living person donating a lobe of their liver.

Your doctor will have to run some investigations to make sure that the liver is suitable for you to avoid rejection of the transplanted organ. The most common cause of drug-induced liver transplantation is paracetamol. Following the procedure, you will be able to go home and carry out your life normally with a few medications.
