Anal Cancer and HPV Infection

The oncogenic genotype of HPV infection causes anal cancer, and anal intraepithelial neoplasia is its precursor lesion. According to a study among 1200 men from Brazil, the U.S., and Mexico, HPV infection among men was 13.4% who don’t have sexual interaction with other men. The majority was 3 times higher among men, 43.2%, who have sex with other men.
HIV can increase the risk of HPV anal infection among bisexual men and women. Many epidemiological studies have reported that anal HPV infection is common among HIV-positive patients. Genital warts take 6 months to clear, and most of the HPV infections are without any visible genital warts.
