Severe symptoms
Inadequate care leads to severe symptoms that threaten your life. These symptoms include:
- A musty and pungent breath odor occurs due to the failure of the liver to detoxify mercaptans. Constipation enhances its excretion in the mouth, while defecation inhibits its excretion.
- Yellowish discoloration of skin and eyes (jaundice) appears due to failure of the liver to deal with bilirubin.
- Collection of fluids in the abdomen (ascites)
- Skin symptoms result from the accumulation of vasodilator materials in the peripheral arteries. They include:
- Redness in the head of metacarpal bones, thinner, and hypothenar with central pallor (palmar erythema)
- Spider naevi (Presence of blanching and radiating capillaries on the face, the trunk, and the upper part of the arms).
- Paper money skin
- White and curved nails
