5. Antiretroviral Therapy

Antiretroviral Therapy is a treatment in which health care professionals target to improve the immune system to fight with virus. This treatment is the most effective for people with HIV if they contract molluscum contagiosum. In HIV patients, low CD4 cell counts cause a large amount of facial Mollusca, even if it is considered a marker for severe HIV disease.b Therefore, strengthening the immune system is regarded as the best therapy so far. In worst-case scenarios, intralesional interferon is used to treat these facial lesions, but it carries many unwanted side effects, including site tenderness, depression, and lethargy. Interferon therapy is also effective for Molluscum contagiosum in a healthy person.
