Home care & remedies
Besides medical treatment, we can also discuss a few remedies to treat pinworms. Unlike medical treatment, they do not have as much evidence, but some patients have reported good results. Thus, we say that the evidence is only anecdotal. It means that some people have had good experiences, but it is not a tested method or a first-line treatment. As such, it may work in some people but not in others, and you need to be very careful in case you develop allergies to this type of home remedy. If you ever experience adverse reactions, we recommend suspending the treatments and asking your doctor about it.
These are potential home remedies some users have tried in case of pinworm infections:
Garlic

Using garlic as a spice or eating garlic supplements may contribute by killing Enterobius vermicularis eggs. It is also said to prevent female worms from producing eggs. Garlic is either ingested or applied topically, but the oral application is apparently more effective. If you don’t have garlic supplements, you can adopt a cheaper and easier approach. Slice a clove, combine it with pasta, bread, or any other type of food, and eat it. Some people may choose to swallow the garlic clove as it is.
You can also use a salve to apply topically in the anal region. To create this topical solution, chop some garlic cloves, mashing them until you get a homogeneous paste. You can add some coconut oil, olive oil, or petroleum jelly to make a salve. Then, apply the garlic solution with a cotton swab in the anal region. Once the cotton swab touches the anus, do not use it once again. Use oral garlic instead if you have excoriations, sensitive skin, hemorrhoids, or active inflammation. Discontinue if you feel a burning sensation when applying garlic in the area.
