2. Cryotherapy (Freezing medicine)
Cryotherapy treatment involves the application of liquid nitrogen to the plantar wart. It can be a painful method, but your dermatologist will numb your feet first and then apply liquid nitrogen either by spray or cotton swab.
Due to the application of liquid nitrogen, a blister will form around the wart, and then it will fall off. It also activates your immune system. You have to visit your dermatologist several times a week until the plantar wart is completely healed. According to research, cryotherapy is more effective than salicylic acid solution treatment.
Cryotherapy may pose adverse effects, such as it may cause mobility limiting pain. There is a double freeze therapy in which a wart is frozen by forming 1-2 mm ice halo forms, and it is unfrozen and again refrozen immediately. The treatment is repeated for many weeks to months until the wart is completely fallen off. This treatment can be painful and is not generally recommended for young children. It is not as effective for treating plantar warts on the soles of the feet.
It may result in the formation of blisters. It may cause skin irritation, discoloration, and scar formation. It may cause nerve damage in diabetic patients with diabetic feet, resulting in poor healing.
