Renal Failure (Kidney Failure); Symptoms, Diagnosis and Management

Signs and symptoms

One of the worse aspects of chronic kidney disease is that it is asymptomatic in the early stages of the disease. When patients start experiencing symptoms, they are likely in an advanced stage of the disease, mainly stages 4 and 5. Before that time, it is diagnosed with urine tests, which should be done frequently in patients at a higher risk of renal disease.

Symptoms of advanced chronic kidney disease include:

Oliguria

This is probably the main symptom of chronic kidney disease. The kidneys no longer work as they should, and they are not filtering a normal volume of blood. Thus, urine production is reduced, and the patient has a very low voiding frequency, known as oliguria. In very severe cases, oliguria turns into anuria, which is a complete absence of urine production.
