The best treatment for sciatic nerve pain is careful movement and home remedies until the pain is alleviated and finally gone. This is the best thing the patient can do at home and not every case needs a visit to the doctor. If the pain persists or worsens, a visit to the doctor becomes inevitable. The medication prescribed would be for pain management only.

In extreme cases, surgery is the only option left. The pain can also be numbed temporarily using anesthetics but this is not the best treatment. If your sciatic pain lightens on its own, that is certainly in the best interest of your health.
