Can my Pain and Numbness Continue Following the Surgery?

Can my Pain and Numbness Continue Following the Surgery?

One of the many facts that people do not know is that neurons (nerve cells) do not regenerate. If they die, they will remain so, and spinal stenosis, if prolonged, can cause irreversible neurological damage. Surgery is mainly done to preserve the present neurological function and prevent any further damage. This can result in the subsidence of symptoms or they main remain.

Time is the main determinant in these cases, and if your symptoms remain after surgery and for more than 6 months, it is less likely for recovery to happen. During the six months following surgery, you can expect varying degrees of recovery. This does not mean that there are no other options for residual symptoms and your doctor will prescribe you a group of medications including vitamins and others to control the pain and numbness. One of the commonly used medications are pregabalin and gabapentin. They work by blocking pain signals from reaching the brain and improve the symptoms significantly.
