Atrophic Glossitis
It is a condition in which filiform or papillae on the dorsal surface of the tongue are partially or completely absent. It reflects deficiencies of many vital nutrients including deficiency of vitamin B12, folic acid, ribavirin, iron, zinc, and many other nutrients.
Many case studies have been performed that direct to the relatively high frequency of vitamin B12 deficiency in the enrolled patients of atrophic glossitis. So, it is very crucial to examine the serum hematinic, homocysteine, complete blood count (CBC), and autoimmune antibody levels in these patients before prescribing the treatment for them.
