8) Bone-Strengthening Properties

from healthella-bones-health

There are two components in parsley that contribute to bone health. They are vitamin K and calcium, but especially vitamin K because it is very rich in this nutrient. When you’re low in vitamin K, your risk of bone fractures increases because it is necessary to modulate the function of a specific cell in the bone called osteoclast. These cells degrade bone tissue to let osteoblasts create new bone right after. This is called bone turnover, and it is regulated by vitamin K and vitamin D.

Besides, vitamin K modulates calcium absorption. If you don’t have enough, you won’t be absorbing enough calcium, even when it is available. It reduces calcium secretion and helps your bones receive more of this nutrient. Thus, obtaining enough vitamin K from parsley will definitely make a difference if you are deficient in this nutrient.

Another nutrient supporting bone tissue is vitamin C, which is also abundant in this herb. Vitamin C stimulates the production of collagen, a type of fiber we can find in bones, the skin, and other parts of the body. Apigenin in parsley will also provide some benefits, especially by promoting osteoblast. These are the bone-forming cells and help mineralize your skeletal tissue.
