Standard dosage
The standard dosage of Acetaminophen varies with its indication and dosage forms. The drug is available in tablets, caplets, capsules, powder, granules, suppositories, syrups, extended-release, and even suspensions and solutions for injectables. For analgesia and fever, the recommended dose is 325 mg to 650 mg orally every four hours or as required. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 4 grams per day.
For extra strength tablets of Acetaminophen, the maximum daily dose is 3 grams per day, and any dose above this will become toxic. People with renal impairments need dosage adjustment. If the GFR is equal to or greater than 50 mL/min, it does not need adjustments, but any GFR value less than this needs a dose modification in order to avoid drug accumulation in the body. Hence, extreme caution is required for people who have hepatic impairments. Any patient with hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver injuries need to modify Acetaminophen doses too.
