Signs and Symptoms of Aflatoxin

The signs and symptoms of Aflatoxin poisoning or Aflatoxicosis are very sickening and disturbing for the patient. Initially, the patient develops nausea and vomiting, followed by headache, pale eyes, and yellow skin, which are jaundice-like symptoms.
These symptoms are often accompanied by convulsions, abdominal pain, and even fluid build-up in the body. In addition, there are many cases of cerebral edema, and pulmonary edema reported. A patient who has Aflatoxicosis might have severe damage to their kidneys, liver, and heart, and the condition can aggravate, resulting in the patient’s death.
A person who consumes many aflatoxins in a very short period is likely to have an acute illness. If proper treatment is given within a clinical setting, slow recovery is possible. Sensitive classes of people like children, older people, and pregnant ladies are more likely to develop a serious condition through Aflatoxicosis. If the exposure to these toxins is in small quantities over an extended time, the reaction of the body and the symptoms would be slightly different.
