Alcoholic Cirrhosis; What Does Alcoholic Cirrhosis Mean?

What are the clinical presentations that suggest that you catch alcoholic cirrhosis?

Your body will be able to compensate for your liver’s limited function in the early stages of the disease. Symptoms of alcoholic cirrhosis typically develop between the ages of 30 and 40. As the disease progresses, symptoms become more noticeable.

Early symptoms include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Fever and diarrhea
  • Pruritis (skin itching)
  • Abdominal pain

If the condition is uncontrolled, severe symptoms will appear, such as:

  • Jaundice: yellowing of the tissues, eyes, and skin due to increased bilirubin level in the blood.
  • Musty breath because the liver is unable to detoxify mercaptans.
  • Fluid accumulates in the abdomen and legs (ascites and edema).
  • Vomiting blood (hemoptysis)
  • Confusion, sleepiness, slurred speech, and change in behavior
