Health problems associated with alcohol abuse
Alcohol abuse and alcoholism both have plenty of consequences in the short and the long term. In the short term, alcohol intoxication causes symptoms such as:
- Brain function impairments that include slurred speech, reduced reaction time, reduced motor skills, and poor judgment.
- Rapid loss of body heat as the blood vessels dilate in the skin.
- Fetal damage in the case of pregnant women.
- An increased risk of violence, traffic accidents, and injuries.
- Coma and death if alcohol is consumed in very large amounts
