Swinging mood
The effect of liver disease can even affect mood. Our mood is more complex than we think it is, and many chemicals interact in our basal ganglia as well as other parts in our brain to manage our mood. In many cases, patients with liver disease can be depressed for a long time before realizing that their depression can be a symptom of their liver disease.
It goes without saying that you should consult a psychiatrist whenever you feel depressed or down. They are trained medical personnel and can know when an organic cause can be underlying. If so, they will refer you to another physician for further management.
