What Is Considered a Dangerously Low/High Ferritin Level?

Ever since the start of the pandemic, more and more markers are being investigated for their role in determining the outcome of patients and if they may be used to monitor treatment. Many have already been identified, the most commonly used of which is viral load through PCR. Ferritin has been investigated and proved to be related to severe diseases including patients with cytokine storm, a severe condition of inflammation and tissue destruction. Ferritin is not specific enough and does not require specific treatment once it is found to be elevated in those patients. Further research may be needed regarding its role.
