Is Folliculitis Contagious? Types, Causes, and Prevention

Folliculitis

Signs & Symptoms

Signs and Symptoms

In folliculitis, red pimples form in the skin, and they usually have a hair in the center. The pimples may also have pus and cause symptoms such as burning or itching. They may drain blood or pus when they burst open. This problem can affect one or several follicles, and it can last for a short time (acute) or a long time (chronic). “Hot tub folliculitis” usually emerges 72 hours after a session in a spa or hot tub. A large number of pimples pop up in the abdomen and extremities. Your body temperature may increase slightly, and you could also experience an upset stomach. Hot tub folliculitis usually improves in 7 to 10 days without medication.
