Prevention for Folliculitis

There are several things you may try to protect or stop folliculitis from spreading.
- Use mild soap in your baths every day. Also, if you exercise or work with chemicals, take a bath or shower afterward.
- Avoid the use of shared towels and washcloths. Always use a clean towel after bathing (if you have folliculitis).
- Be careful not to scratch or burst the bumps.
- Don’t shave the bumps. If you feel forced to shave the area, make sure to use a new razor blade.
- Stay away from oils as a part of your skincare. Oils trap bacteria in your skin’s pores, causing folliculitis.
- Shower with soap after using public spas and hot tubs. If you have your hot tub, make sure you clean it according to the manufacturer’s directions.
