Protect Your Skin from Direct Sunlight

Protect Your Skin from Direct Sunlight

Regardless of your skin complexion, whether your skin is pale or dark, sunlight can damage it in one form or another. This damage ranges from sunburn to skin cancer. This hazard increases the longer you stay under direct sunlight, especially during noon.

Sunlight contains harmful radiation called ultraviolet rays which damage your skin cells. This damage causes loss of fluid to evaporation and direct damage to your DNA, which increases your risk of developing cancer. Protecting your skin from sunlight includes simple measures such as:

  • Applying sunscreen creams: You will notice that sunscreen creams have an SPF. SPF stands for “Sun Protection Factor”, which means that the higher the SPF of your cream, the less likely the sun is to damage it. It is generally recommended that you get a sunscreen cream with an SPF of more than 50. Apply your sunscreen 15 minutes before you head outdoors.
  • Staying indoors during noon hours: Unless you need to, it is better if you do not expose yourself to sunlight during noon hours. This limits your exposure to sunlight
  • Wearing sunglasses: Sunglasses protect your eyes and eyelids from the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation and gives you a cooler look.
