Who Should Receive a Hepatitis B Immunization?

How does the hepatitis B vaccine work?

This vaccine is made of Hepatitis B surface antigens. It is not a living microorganism. The surface antigen stimulates the individual’s immunity by activating antigen-presenting cells that ultimately create antibodies against the virus. The production of endogenous antibodies is slow and requires 3 doses, but the duration of the immunization after the body has developed defenses has a long-lasting effect.
