What is hepatitis?
Hepatitis features the inflammation of the liver. It is a self-limited condition in most cases, but in others, it progresses into additional diseases, such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. The most common cause of liver inflammation is a hepatitis virus, but toxic substances and autoimmune disorders may also trigger the condition.
There are five hepatitis virus types, named from A to E, and they can cause outbreaks and epidemics if they are not adequately handled. Some of them are acute, meaning that their symptoms are sudden and more severe. Some of them are rather chronic, meaning that you can be infected and not realize until the virus has multiplied and caused severe problems. They both are similar in one thing: the liver grows in size and increases its interstitial fluid. The liver function is also compromised, either in the short-term or after a while.
