13) Eczema herpeticum

This is a complication of herpes simplex when it comes on top of atopic dermatitis. The combination of both conditions causes an extensive eruption in the skin, characterized by vesicles that often get over-infected.

The herpes simplex virus may also lead to life-threatening complications in some cases. This mainly happens in patients with HIV and other forms of immunocompromise.
