In most cases, the first symptom of high ammonia levels in the blood is grade 1 hepatic encephalopathy, including mild cognitive impairments, attention problems, and sometimes anxiety. These symptoms are highly unspecific, and unless you get your ammonia levels measured, you may not realize its cause.
