Prevention of HPV Infection

Prevention of HPV Infection

Medical and dental specialists do not recommend routine screening of oropharyngeal HPV. Lifestyle changes are the most important aspect of prevention of getting HP infection. Some suggestions regarding the prevention of HPV infection are here:

  • Practice safe sex, like using condoms every time you have sex.
  • Limit your number of sexual partners.
  • Ask your partner about the most recent time they’ve been tested for STIs.
  • If you’re sexually active, you should get yourself tested regularly for STIs.
  • If you’re with an unknown partner, avoid oral sex.
  • If you have oral sex often, get yourself a detailed examination by your dentist for any infection.
  • Search your mouth for any abnormalities at least once per month.
  • Get vaccinated against high-risk types of HPV.
