How is HPV Related to Cervical Disease?

from healthella

Certain strains of HPV can cause changes in the cervix cells; a condition called cervical dysplasia. If it isn’t treated, dysplasia can progress to cervical cancer. HPV is quite often the reason for cervical malignant growth. If a lady has HPV or cervical dysplasia doesn’t mean she will always get cervical malignant growth.

In women, genital warts most frequently show up on the vulva (the external female genital region), in or around the anus, around the vagina, on the crotch (where the genital area meets the inward thigh), and in the cervix. Assuming a woman tests positive for high-risk HPV type, the doctor will perform successive PAP smears to check for any cell changes that may be pre-carcinogenic or that should be treated.
