Investigations for Detecting HPV Infection

No specific symptom can track down early infection of HPV infection of the throat. Some harmful or precancerous oropharyngeal HPV infections might be diagnosed during screening or assessment by a dental specialist or medical specialist. Yet, most are diagnosed by screening testing in people who have signs or symptoms of long duration, which do not fit into other common infections.
To investigate a hard-to-see region of the throat, larynx (voice box), and the base of the tongue, specialists, might utilize tiny mirrors. The specialist can use flexible laryngoscopes and pharyngoscopes for specific examination of the throat areas that are not visible easily with mirrors.
The specialist might need to perform a skin biopsy of regions that look doubtful for malignant growths. The cells are then seen to search for disease indications under a magnifying lens. Biopsy tests from skin warts or throat lesions might be tested for the presence of HPV DNA. The presence of HPV DNA flags a malignant growth that is more receptive to treatment than one that is HPV-negative.
