Diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
How do you know if you have irritable bowel syndrome?
Irritable bowel syndrome has certain characteristic gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain with persistent or alternate diarrhea or constipation that can last from a few days to a few months. They may vary from person to person and affect some individuals more severely than others. These symptoms tend to come and go and may be influenced by stress and diet.
Another characteristic feature that helps you know that you have IBS is the ease of symptoms (pain and bowel movements) after going to the toilet. Consult your general practitioner or gastroenterologist to evaluate your symptoms.
