Can IBS be detected by a colonoscopy?

Colonoscopy means an examination of the colon from the inside with the help of colonoscopy (a long and flexible tube with a light and a tiny digital camera at one end). Usually, a colonoscopy is used to look for colon conditions like colon polyps, bleeding, colon cancer and to diagnose symptoms such as abdominal pain, unexplained diarrhea or blood in the stool.
It can be used to diagnose IBS by ruling out other GIT conditions. Your physician may recommend a colonoscopy if you have abdominal pain and gas, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation. If no other conditions like polyps, bleeding or a tumor are found, your chances of having IBS increased.
