Who should use Isoniazid?
The drug is specifically indicated for tuberculosis patients only. This is because the mechanism of its action targets mycolic acid synthesis, a chemical compound that is absent in other bacteria. Also, the drug is ineffective for all types of viral infections, so it must not be consumed for flu or flu-like symptoms. A positive TB skin test or a positive Mantoux test is the only indication of using Isoniazid.
People who have allergies to Isoniazid or have had a previous skin allergy or anaphylaxis attacks in response to a new drug should report their history to the physician. This will prevent any Isoniazid-related allergic reaction beforehand.
