Type of Foods You Can Eat in a Keto Diet

As noted above, the ketogenic diet restricts carbohydrate intake almost entirely. It is not a low-carb diet. It is a very low-carb diet. You’re not meant to eat more than 5 or 10% of your calories from carbohydrates. Instead, you will be consuming up to 75% of calories from fatty acids, and the rest comes from protein sources. Sustaining this type of diet for one or two weeks will switch your metabolic trigger and make your body burn fat more promptly.
The type of food you will eat in a keto diet includes:
- Fatty fish: They are filled with healthy fats, which are always desirable. Contrary to what people think, some fats are beneficial for our health. Thus, choosing the right type will keep you healthy.
- Meat: Dietitians recommend lean meat to reduce saturated fat consumption. It is filled with protein and has almost zero carbohydrates.
- Healthy oils: There are various oils you can use to season foods, especially olive oil. You can also even use coconut oil and butter as long as it comes from grass-fed cows.
- A variety of vegetables: You can eat almost all vegetables on a keto diet. Some of them are higher in carbs, such as carrots. In such a case, you should limit consumption or eat sparingly. But most vegetables are fine.
- Other healthy fat sources: There are many healthy fat sources, including avocados, nuts, and seeds.
