What is The Life Expectancy for Liver Cirrhosis?

How can you increase your life expectancy?

There are many ways to increase your life expectancy if you’re not an end-stage patient in line for a liver transplant. First, you need to follow your doctor’s recommendations. They will be aimed at removing the source of the problem and preventing further liver damage. They are also useful to manage complications and reduce their impact on your health. Treatment compliance is then fundamental to increase your life expectancy.

Besides medical treatment, your doctor will give you a set of recommendations. They are highly variable, but one of them is the same regardless of the type of cirrhosis and the root cause: you should avoid all kinds of alcoholic beverages.

Additionally, and only after taking your treatment and cutting out alcohol, you can adopt other recommendations:

  • Reduce your intake of sodium or table salt because it will make the fluid retention worse.
  • Clean your vegetables before eating and your hands frequently to reduce the chance of infections
  • Ask your doctor before changing or including a new drug, even if they are natural supplements or over-the-counter drugs
