3. Abdominal pain

Patients with cirrhosis often have dull abdominal pain located on the right side and below the ribs, in a space known as right hypochondrium. The liver is located in this area, and it is often enlarged or with a completely altered anatomy. This change creates distension and other changes in the external capsule of the organ and pushes away other organs, causing pressure upon nerves and nerve terminals. They create this sensation of pressure or pain that can be either mild, moderate, or severe.
