Liver Cleanse: Is Detox Really Possible & How to Detox Your Liver

Detox herbs

  • Milk thistle: This is by far the best detox herb and one you can consume safely without fearing for any side effects. It has a component called silymarin, which has many functions, and most of them are related to the liver. It has been widely studied, and it is absolutely fantastic. Milk thistle (or silymarin) improves the liver’s antioxidant activity, boosts protein synthesis, and can actually prevent toxins from penetrating liver cells and cause damage. It is one of the best herbs you can try to detox your liver, and it can be found in different presentations and supplements from reliable brands.
  • Garlic: Garlic is one of the best spices you can adopt to care for your liver. It has organosulfur compounds capable of achieving many effects in hepatocytes. Garlic increases glutathione levels in the liver, similar to what papaya does. It also speeds up the elimination of waste substances by the liver and can be used along milk thistle to boost our natural detoxification system.
  • Turmeric: This is also a very safe spice we can use in our day-to-day or consume in supplements. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Plus, turmeric shields the liver from the harmful effects of heavy metals. Thus, it is beneficial for people exposed to heavy metals as a part of their work.

You can use a supplement such as milk thistle to speed up your detox. You can adopt a few foods and spices. You can avoid consuming too much alcohol and lead a healthier diet. Everything counts for your liver, and you don’t need to be in an emergency setting to realize that this is a very important organ that you want to care for every day instead of every month or when it is irreversibly diseased.
