Liver Flukes Treatment & Symptoms To Look Out For

Sites Being Effected Most By Liver Flukes

A feature of Fasciola hepatica is commonly infecting liver and bile ducts. However, larval flukes (immature) can move to abnormal locations such as the pancreas, lungs, subcutaneous tissue, the genitourinary system, the eyes, or the brain. Ectopic Fasciola parasites may or may not grow into adult flukes, and Subadult worms, for example, may emerge through the skin.

Furthermore, in the past, some cases of Halzoun led to acute hypersensitivity reactions involving the mouth and throat mucosa and upper respiratory tract in people who ate raw or undercooked sheep or goat liver. This was attributed to larval Fasciola flukes attached to the pharyngeal mucosa and upper respiratory tract.
