12) Rhabdomyolysis

It is called hypokalemic rhabdomyolysis, and it features the destruction of the muscle tissue. It is not the most common manifestation and only happens in very severe cases, but it should not be overlooked, especially in critically ill patients.
Rhabdomyolysis happens because the muscles are not receiving enough oxygen supply and other nutrients. The blood vessels are not working as they should. They dilate when they shouldn’t, and the blood flow is altered. When this problem continues for a very long time, muscle ischemia can happen. In other words, the muscles die from lack of oxygen.
