Molluscum Contagiosum (Water Warts); Causes, Symptoms, Prevention & Treatment Options

Diagnosis

Diagnosis

Mollusca is very prominent and can be diagnosed by doctors by a mere look at the infected part. However, tests like skin scraping or biopsy can be taken to confirm the virus. Although no treatment is required in most cases and bumps disappear within 6 months to 1 year, it’s better to consult your doctor when any lesion lasts more than a few days. However, if lesions appear around genitals (near the penis, vulva, vagina, or anus), then an immediate examination should be taken to avoid any other severe infection. Your health care professional might ask you the following questions to complete the diagnosis.

  • When did you first experience these symptoms?
  • What symptoms are you experiencing?
  • Are these symptoms continuous or occasional?
  • Do anything increase/decrease these symptoms?
  • Have you had similar lesions before?
  • Have you noticed anyone close to you with similar lesions?

Note that diagnosis through online forums at home might not be correct and can lead to ignorance towards any serious infection; therefore, consulting a healthcare professional would be the best option to consider.
